Rosalina: My Kinda-Sorta Fairy Godmother

Hey Guys!

Well, it's March again! Riding the green, lucky clover train all the way to Easter! Choo-choo! Speaking of green, what do you guys think of Luigi's Balloon World in Mario Odyssey? I tried it out with him when it came out, in game AND in person! Let me tell you, it's a lot harder to find good spots than it looks! I'm well aware that there are glitched ones in the game, but luckily I don't have to worry about that in real life. It's really taken off over here, I'm so proud of Luigi!

Anyway, like the title suggests I would like to talk about another one of my friends, the always lovely Rosalina. Rosalina, or Rose as I like to call her for short, is just like what you've already seen, calm, mature, reserved and powerful. She was the one who truly helped me understand the extent of my past as Aurora and gain control of my then growing powers by helping me find my wand. Ever since then, she has stuck to being a sort of magical tutor to me. If I ever got stuck on a spell or was in a tough place, she would be there in an instant to give me words of wisdom before she left me to figure out the rest. She almost acted like a Fairy Godmother to me, like the one in Cinderella. Until my sister came back into my life, Rose filled that void. She was always willing to lend her ear to me, no matter where she was in the Universe. After Midnight and I had talked about her the other day, I wanted to bring this topic up. So today, I'm going to tell you guys the story of how I met Rosalina, and how she helped me put my powers back in my control.

It all started at the Star Festival a few years ago, the same one that happened during the events of "Super Mario Galaxy". Before Peach had invited Mario to the event, Luigi, PomPom and I went ahead to see the festival. By that point, I was feeling self-conscious of my new powers and identity, but it was nice to go out and have some fun. After a while though the three of us went to the castle to spend time with Peach and wait for Mario. Of course, you guys know what happened next. Just as Mario is making his way to the castle, Bowser shows up and uproots it into space, taking up all of us with it! Soon after Mario was sent flying by Kamek and Bowser warped us all away. Poor Peach was devastated, and the Toads with Luigi thought of a way to escape and look for Mario. They got a space ship going, and everything was going according to plan, until Bowser caught us. Peach didn't make it onto the ship sadly, but as the rest of us tried to escape, Bowser attacked the ship and sent us all flying in different directions, which was how Luigi and I got separated from the Toads and each other. All I could do was cling to PomPom for dear life as floated aimlessly in space, but then I suddenly felt enveloped in this soft, white light and I black out.

When I woke some time later, I wasn't in space anymore, instead I was on a planet with grassy terrain. It was obviously Gateway Galaxy, but I didn't know it at the time. After I took a few minutes to collect myself, I suddenly remembered that PomPom was with me and frantically looked around for her. As I did, a voice called behind me saying that she was fine and told me to not worry. When I turned around, that's when I first saw Rosalina, sitting at a makeshift table made from a couple of mushrooms and a tree stump. She looked at me with the most tender eyes and smile that I nearly melted. I then spotted on the table a tea set with a tray of different pastries with tiny Star-Bits in them, and PomPom was happily eating them along with a Luma she had been playing with. She then coaxed me to sit and eat too, saying that I needed the nourishment. I hesitated at first, but I eventually did sit down with her, and I timidly grabbed a cookie off the tray. All the while I made constant eye contact with Rose, only to look away for a split second when I took the cookie. I looked at it in my hands and then back at her, who nodded and encouraged me to eat it. It wasn't like I was worried about being poisoned or anything, I was just nervous about sitting at a table with a stranger. I finally bit into the cookie and I instantly lit up, it was so sweet and delicious. The Star-Bits were stuffed into it like chocolate chips.

I felt better right away and started to loosen up, and it was at that point that she began to explain herself. She told me that, when I was separated from Luigi and the others, she somehow sensed my aura floating aimlessly in space. The white light that I saw before I fainted was her transporting me to Gateway Galaxy with her magic. She had been waiting at the table with me while I slept. As we kept talking, I slowly started to get comfortable around her, especially after knowing that she saved me. Soon later she stood up stating that we needed to head back, and coaxed me to come with her. Of course I was mad confused, so as she started to walk away I ran after and bombarded her with questions about my friends and what happened to them, but all she did was look back at me and kept telling me to come with her. We then came up to the small house that transports you to the Observatory, and Rose tells me that I'll "find my answers through it". With PomPom in hand, I took her word for it and stepped in, and immediately we were warped to the Observatory. It was so incredible seeing it for the first time! By then though it wasn't fully powered so the upper portion was still in the dark. She told me about it's purpose and the reason why it was in such a state, and using her floating bubbles, gently lowered us down to the main floor in front of the beacon. She then talked about how a certain man was helping her restore her ship so they could travel to the center of the Universe. As she did, I looked over and saw the Garage area with a damaged space ship and recognized it as the same I escaped on with Luigi and the Toads.

I completely forgot about Rosalina and ran straight to the ship, and as I got closer I spotted the Toads working on it. As soon as they saw me and PomPom they dropped everything they were doing and ran to greet me. After a tearful reunion, I asked them about Luigi, but none of them knew where he was. I then asked about Mario and if he was okay, and they said he was fine, in fact he was out hunting for Power Stars and they told me to wait for him with Rosalina. I felt so relieved when I heard that! I knew deep down that Mario was fine, but I still couldn't help but worry! Sure enough, some time later he came back from one of the domes, and as he walked up I ran as fast as I could to give him a hug so huge that I knocked him off his feet to the ground, with tears streaming down my face the whole time. At first Mario was in shock, but then he regained his senses and started to comfort me on the spot. Rosalina then came up to us and explained to Mario how she found me and he thanked her. Eventually we stood back up and it was business as usual. After Mario talked to Rosalina on where to go next, he went right back to hunting Power Stars. In the meantime I just wandered around the lit parts of the Observatory and waited. Some time passed and Mario had finally found Luigi in a different galaxy, and PomPom and I greeted him in a similar fashion as I did with Mario.

After that, nothing too out of context happened that was already shown in SMG. That soon changed however, when Rose introduced me to the Library. She was preparing to read a story to the Lumas and offered me to come and listen. I accepted thinking it was just going to be the one she always read, but once I arrived at the Library, Mario and Luigi were there too. The two of them were just as confused as I was why we she invited all of us. Rosalina then gathered us together with the Lumas to start storytime. As she was looking through the shelves, the Lumas were chirping around her asking what she was going to read, she only smiled and said that it was going to be a bit of a different story that night. She then pulled out a very old and ornate looking book from the shelf and walked over to her chair, while the Bros. and I sat on the floor with PomPom in my lap. Before she began, she explained that the book was one she had for a very long time, but the lock on it prevented her from reading what's inside. We all just looked at each other still confused, and then Rosalina presented the book to us so we could look at it. As we got closer, our Shine Sprite charms began to glow and their light began to pour into the book's lock. Once enough light flowed into the lock, we heard a snap as it popped open, unlocking the book. The Bros. and I were reeling at this in total shock, but Rosalina took back the book with complete composure and said that storytime could now begin.

I'll try to make this part short, but essentially as started to read the book, it became very clear why she picked it, it was the story of The Cosmic Sisters! It was MY STORY! That book was one of the few in history that contained the true original story of the events that happened, sealed behind a lock that only I could open! As we sat and listened to the story, I was uncomfortable the entire time, and kept wincing at the parts I remembered(If you wanna read that story, see my "Tale of Cosmic Power" post! 'Kay thnx). When she finished, she looked up at me with a confident smile and asked me how much I remembered. I was dumbfounded, turned out that she knew I was Aurora all along, and reading the story only confirmed her suspicions. When Mario asked her what was next for me after this, she didn't say, only that there was now a mission that she needed me to accomplish. After sending all the Lumas to bed, Rosalina then pulled out a different book that she used for star charts. She then opened it to a certain page and showed it to us. It was a map that displayed a field of galaxies that also featured a bright-colored nebula. Her notes stated that there was a force that was being projected from the nebula that prevented her from getting close. Rose then told me that the force she felt from the nebula felt just like the aura I was giving off when she found me. She wanted to see if my presence as Aurora would let me see what was inside the nebula.

At first Mario was against the idea, thinking it would be too dangerous for me. But Rose eventually convinced him that this was something that I needed to do, and he let me go. Right away Rosalina took me to one of the domes and put in the coordinates of the nebula. Several planets were shown to be close enough to let someone approach without being repelled, so Mario was allowed to go with me for part of the way. After everything was set, a Launch Star was called, Mario and I were sucked into it, and we were sent off to the nebula. Flying through space was an amazing feeling! Soon we landed right onto the planets before the nebula. It was gorgeous, and ironically it resembled the aurora lights back on Earth. Once we got our bearings, a Luma appeared and turned into another Launch Star to send me in. Mario gave me one last hug for reassurance and I took off in the Launch Star. After some more flying, I finally reached the center of the nebula, and there it was. My wand, the Aurora Staff, was floating among the stardust. When I was done marveling at it, I reached out and grabbed it by the handle. Suddenly, the nebula sprang to life and started to circle and swirl around me all at once. It then felt like the nebula was pushing me with it and I took off like a comet. After flying around for several minutes trying to control it, it finally flew back to the planet Mario was on and dropped me off in a flash of light. When the light disappeared, I had changed into a new dress, the wand in hand, and my powers were finally stable.

WHEW! Let's wrap this up shall we? Basically after all of that Rosalina warped us back to the Observatory and everything went back on track like it did in SMG. The Universe was saved and all was well. I wasn't strong enough to fight still so I stayed behind, and in the black hole at the end I was still with PomPom on the Observatory. The next thing I remember is waking up back in the Mushroom Kingdom with Luigi and PomPom by the castle. At first I thought it was all a dream, but I looked down and noticed I was still in my then-new dress and my wand was on the ground beside me... with the book Rosalina read to us! When I opened it again, the book was completely different, the story was gone. In its place was a collection of spells for the wand for me to learn! I still use that book to this day to look back on old spells and learn new ones.

I know, I know, another long post! I'm sorry! It's just fun to talk about these crazy events with you! It kinda gives you a window into the wacky world that is me. So yeah, that was my first encounter with Rosalina, and how she and I developed a good friendship together. I hope you guys enjoyed this one! I was listening to Mario Galaxy music as I wrote this and it totally helped! I hope you guys love Rosalina as much as I do! Gotta jet, I'll blog ya soon guys!

  2. Aw, it was nice of Rosalina to help both you and your friends during another one of Bowser's invasions. (Seriously, does that Koopa King have anything better to do other than attacking the Mushroom Kingdom and kidnapping Princess Peach?) Well, anyway, what matters is that the all of you are okay. Plus, you even made a new friend which was Rosalina! I'm sure she is fun to spend time with. Whether it'd be training with her on your magic abilities or doing some pleasant activities. Princess Rosalina does sound like a wonderful friend to have.
