Geez Loueez! Sorry about the delay for this post! I've just been spending time with my friends and family while catching up on work after the holidays. Today though, I'd like to talk about a more... personal topic. If you guys have been on my blog for a while, you may have seen me talk about my "past self" Aurora Delfinia. Well, I can promise you that past life happened, but I wasn't alone. I actually had true family back then, I have a sister! Her name is Midnight Aura, and only recently she had returned in my life, and I want to tell you guys about her and her story. So buckle up, this one's going deep.
To start, Midnight and I were once known as the Cosmic Sisters. Powerful maidens who had been blessed to protect this galaxy. Midnight, the older sister, had power over the Lights of the Heavens. The power of every last star in the night sky and the moon were at her command. While I, as the younger sister, had been given dominion over the Lights of the Earth. This included the Sun, the aurora lights it gave off(which gave me my name), and the very Earth itself was my responsibility to protect.
Over time, we needed a place to call home, and decided to make ourselves a sort of empire on Earth. Once we set ground, our empire grew quickly and was prosperous, and over time my sister used her power to create an artifact called the Infinity Star. The Infinity Star had the power to prolong the lifespans of our citizens and helped the empire last through the ages. On top of that it acted as a window to the vastness of space. As ages passed, Midnight and I would continue to rule the empire in peace, with her as an Empress and me under her. Our relationship as sisters was very healthy back then. We never fought or bickered like you'd see with other Sun/Moon counterparts like us. In fact, there were many times that Midnight would put me practically on a pedestal at times so others besides herself could admire me. Apart from our personal duties we did everything together: gardening, music, astronomy, all kinds of those old-timey activities.
Of course, all good things have to come to an end. One day, my sister was going to coronate me as an Empress to make me equal to her. She threw an extravagant party just for me and invited all who could come, but it turned out I wasn't loved by everyone. Later that evening, at the height of the party, the ballroom doors were thrown open and a murky purple-black smoke poured into the room. It moved like a wave across the room until it stopped in front of Midnight and I, who were standing in front of our thrones. Then the smoke billowed into one place and pillared upward to form into the shape of a disheveled woman with long dark purple hair that reached the floor. She was slouched over, so we didn't see her face, but my sister could tell that she was a being formed from the Earth's shadows. When my sister demanded to the woman to explain herself, she only said that she was displeased with us, sick of our light, and was determined to snuff us out.
All at once, the shadow woman then sent out her smoke to envelope the entire room, with the party guests captured within it. Midnight thought fast and took me into a passageway behind the throne that lead to the Infinity Star. Her plan was to use it's power to banish the shadow woman back to wherever she came from, but the spell was so powerful that we had to "charge" the Infinity Star first. Unfortunately we couldn't charge it in time, and the shadow woman was right on us. Before she could attack us though, Midnight used whatever power we stored up to create a portal for me to escape through... but she chose to stay behind to battle the shadow woman. And that was the last time I saw her in her normal state until we reunited ages later, but we'll get to that.
After all of that, I woke up in a field far from the capital city and the Palace. I was able to spot it in the distance, but all I could see was the Palace surrounded in the shadow woman's smoke. Then I saw a huge flash of light come from the interior of the Palace and then seven smaller lights fly in all directions away from the source. That was where I broke down, because I knew my sister was gone. On top of that the seven lights was the Infinity Star breaking apart and separating, which was it's fail-safe if it was ever threatened. As I sat there and cried, I felt a tap on my shoulder, and when I turned to look there was a young Toad who saw everything that happened. When I explained everything, he instantly wanted to help me find the Infinity Star's remaining fragments. I tried talking him out of it, but he insisted to help me. It was at that point that he showed me that he had found one of the fragments already, a crystalline star that resembled a diamond...
Sooo to some of you, bits of this story may sound AWFULLY familiar. Well, it should. Ever played the game "Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door"? YUP! That backstory you hear at the beginning was a part of MY BACKSTORY! The calamity that attacked the great city? That was the scene I just talked about up above! The great city was the Capital to our old Empire! The Infinity Star? It was the original form of the Crystal Stars! And the shadowy woman? None other than the Shadow Queen herself, before she got her cursed mitts on my sister! Of course, some of you might scream at me saying, "Well, I don't see any trace of you two ANYWHERE in the story OR the game!" Well, if knowledge serves me right, there was a point in history where stories and legends like mine were only passed down by word of mouth, and over the years some details would be lost by those who would tell the story. Unless that person was a detailed historian when they write the book, they wouldn't have known the truth. I have only found two books so far that contain the true story, one that is with a wizard who revealed to me my past for the first time, and one that Rosalina had given to me that also doubled as a spell book.
Ahem... Anyways back to the story, after I met the Toad, we agreed to journey to find the remaining Crystal Stars and rescue Midnight at the Palace. And essentially you could follow the intro to TTYD for the most part, as we traveled we came across not only more of the Stars, but the remaining three heroes as well. It's until we had made it back to the Palace that the details got messed up. When we made it inside, the Palace looked drastically different and there was a darker aura in the air. Once we made it into the throne room, we found the Shadow Queen, but I was not pleased at what I saw. She had possessed Midnight and used her like a puppet to fight us! That's right, my sister was the original victim of the Shadow Queen, not Peach!
Before anything drastic could happen, the four heroes with the Stars, and I with my magic, attacked the Shadow Queen and managed to strip her from Midnight's body, reducing her into a demon-like state after being exposed to Midnight's power. The heroes then used the Stars again to corner her into the chamber where you find her in TTYD and attempted to seal her away, but she inflicted the Black Chest Curse on them with her "dying" breath before she was concealed into her coffin. After all was over, the heroes came out of the chamber to find me with my sister, who was laying lifeless on the floor, seemingly dead. We mourned at first, but then I felt a tiny glimmer of her soul within her body. I immediately come up with a plan and had the heroes help me.
First, we carried Midnight back up to her bedroom, or rather what's left of it, and placed her on her bed so she'd be comfortable. Next, I used a powerful concealing spell that sealed off the entire wing her room was in so that people wouldn't find her. The final step was to go outside to the front door, at this point I was feeling very weak from the spells I cast, but I had to finish it. I then used that last of my power as well as the Crystal Stars to not only seal the door shut with the Thousand-Year seal, but to also jump start a revival process on Midnight, which was to slowly restore her soul and powers to full strength. Unfortunately, the strain from performing those spells were too much for my body to take, and I collapsed to the ground. Surrounded by the heroes, my first set of friends, I passed away.
Yeeeah... told you this was deep... but luckily that wasn't the end of it. Because of my selfless sacrifice, I was given a second chance, and my soul was allowed to remain on Earth in butterfly form so I could continue watching over it. My original plan was to wait out the Thousand-Year seal on the Palace, return in physical form, and reunite with Midnight. Buuut things don't always work according to plan, because my reincarnation was prematurely triggered when I accidentally collided with a Shine Sprite on Isle Delfino, causing me to return as a baby instead. On top of that I lost all of my memories of my past and what I needed to do. By the time my plan was supposed to come to pass, I was only about six years old living with the Bros., and the events of TTYD happened instead. Essentially, Mario did all of the hard work for me without knowing of it's true meaning.
Yeesh, this post is going for far longer than I want it to, but it's good to get it off my chest. Sorry to say that I'll have to make this into a two-parter again. This first post was the backstory, the next one will go more into detail about Midnight herself and how she came to find me. Plus you guys have been waiting for this reveal since the Christmas post. Super sorry about that! Anyways I better cut it off here, but not before I show you all a photo of my precious sister. I hope she was worth the wait! I'll try to make the second post during Valentine's week. Blog ya soon guys! Love ya!

| Well, here she is! Midnight Aura in all her loveliness! Nowadays though she goes by a second "Earth" name, Serena Corona. |

Gee whiz, it must've been really awful to witness the fall of your empire because of the Shadow Queen's destruction. Will you be visiting Rogueport later on with your older sister? It sure has been a long time since you two stepped foot on the land that you both once ruled together.
ReplyDeleteHmm... that’s a good question. We’ve never discussed it, but if anything that call is on Midnight. If I had to guess, she would rather see what the rest of the world has to offer, and I think she has more bad memories than good sadly.
